What great board decks have in common

Priya Nair

A board deck is not a status report. It is a tool for getting the help and decisions you need from the people around the table.
Lead with the ask
Put the two or three decisions you need on the first page. Everything after it should help the board make them.
If the board learns something new in the meeting, the pre-read did not do its job.
Keep the numbers boring
Use the same metrics, in the same order, every quarter. Consistency builds trust faster than any chart.
